Christian China and the Light of the World: Miraculous Stories from China's Great Awakening (Book)

Michelle and I met author, David Wang, in Hong Kong and as a self-described missionary to Mainland China for nearly 50 years, he knows his stuff and introduces us to seven representative leaders of unregistered urban churches in different parts of China.

While the book title is a little misleading as the concept of a 'Christian China' does not figure in the text (it was probably chosen by the publisher's marketing department), the book is full of unique stories that do paint a remarkable and informative picture of the so-called 'Third Church' in urban China.

Other books have been written containing amazing stories of God's power among the house churches in China's countryside.  The stories in this book are equally inspiring and challenging, stories of healings, deliverance, and answers to faith-filled, persevering prayer.  They also include serious tests of faith where hard choices have had to be made in the areas of business where corrupt practices are commonplace, in some cases leading to the loss of their careers and a wealthy lifestyle.

In addition to recommending this book in order to gain an understanding of what God is doing in China's cities, the book highlights some key lessons the urban church leaders have discovered after picking up ideas from overseas.  This includes ideas from Korean and Western mega-church models, which have not always been healthy for the Church in China...lessons we can all learn from!

MAO - The Unknown Story (Book)

This latest book by the author of the international best-seller, 'Wild Swans', has the potential to rewrite Chinese history during the years of Mao Zedong. Much that is still taught in Chinese schools today about Chairman Mao and the rise of the Chinese Communist Party is dismantled as simply myths.

According to this new biography, written after 12 years of extensive research, the former Chinese leader caused the death of more than 70 million Chinese in peacetime, more than Hitler and Stalin put together. This included the deliberate decision to starve almost 38 million Chinese to death during the so-called 'Great Leap Forward' in the late 1950s, where food was exported to the U.S.S.R. in exchange for weapons.Mao isportrayed as a man consumed by a quest for personal power who would employ whatever was necessary -including terror, torture, slave labour, humiliation, brainwashing, and public executions- to get what he wanted. To Mao, China's greatest asset was its huge population, and he exploited it fully allowing an estimated 400,000 Chinese soldiers to die in the Korean War in order to advance his goal of tying down the United States. There is much more, including the assertion that the terribly destructiveCultural Revolution was based on the desire for revenge.

For anyone interested in China this book is a 'must-read'. To understand modern China today, one has to have some understanding of its history. This book challenges some of that history and leaves the reader probably questioning why a portrait of one of the most ruthless dictators in world history still hangs in Tiananmen Square, in the city that will shortly host the next Olympic Games.

RRP £25, although it is currently available from WH Smith at £15.00.

If you enjoy a compelling novel and want to learn about China at the same time, Safely Home, by Randy Alcorn is for you! The story follows American business executive Ben Fielding, who visits his former college roommate, Li Quan, in China. After 20 years he expects to pick up where they left off, but when they're reunited, the men are shocked at what they discover about each other. Ben learns his Chinese friend is being persecuted by communist officials for embracing a Saviour, for whom he is willing to die. A sobering comparison of Christianity in America (the West) to Christianity in China.

AND GOD SAID...Science Confirms the Authority of the Bible(Book)

Thishighly recommendedbook by Dr Farid Abou-Rahme, has been written with great clarity and conviction to show that the facts of science do not support the popular theory of Evolution, but rather support the account of Creation given in the Bible. This very readable book explains how the theory of macro evolution is neither logical, rational, or scientific. It is divided into four parts: Science and the Bible; Creation or Evolution; Evidence for the Flood and Noah's Ark; Written that you may Believe. In these we are shown what it is that fossils, mutations, dinosaurs, and radioactivity dating really have to tell us, and how the great Flood and its effects explain so much of the earth's history.

The book isavailable in Simplified Chinese and would be ideal to give to Chinese students in order to challenge what they have been led to believe is fact about the origins of life and our universe, and to see that the Bible can be taken seriously.

SONG OF A WANDERER - Beckoned by Eternity (Book)

Are you in need of a good book to give to a Chinese student who is finding it difficult to accept the claims of the Bible, having been brought up with an atheistic background? If so, 'Song of a Wanderer' could be the book you need.

This is a book of Christian apologetics and the author, Li Cheng, is a graduate of Beijing University and the Chinese Academy of Sciences. He became a Christian in the United States, where he earned his PhD. The author has a deep understanding of how most Mainland Chinese scholars think and has written this book to help answer the questions many educated Chinese people have when they are searching for the truth.

The book is written in simplified Chinese and can be purchased through us for £3.00 plus p&p. An English version is also available at £7.00 plus p&p.

For 5,000 years the Chinese have called their native land "Shen Zhou" - the Land of God. Strong traditional and archaelogical evidence suggests the early Chinese were devoted to one heavenly God. However, later in her history these godly roots were replaced by anarchy and bloodshed which resulted in poverty, suffering and bondage.

China's Confession traces the fascinating history of China, through all its struggles to the present day when with the growth of the Chinese house churches, it is once again destined to be called the Land of God.

We have found China's Confession to be a great eye-opener and to make a significant impact on Chinese students.

An Abridged Gospel Edition with Mandarin narration and Chinese and English sub-titles is available as either a DVD or VCD.

JESUS IN BEIJING - How Christianity Is Transforming China and Changing the Global Balance of Power (Book)

"An unreported tectonic shift is happening in global politics - and it's driven by religion. Within the next thirty years, one-third of China's population could be Christian, making China one of the largest Christian nations in the world. These Christians could also be China's leaders, guiding the largest economy in the world...In Jesus in Beijing, David Aikman [former Time magazine Beijing Bureau chief]), recounts the fascinating story of how Christianity began in China, the bloody anti-Christian persecutions, the revival of an underground Christian movement led by brave men and women risking death, and the flowering of Christianity today - though still under persecution." This unique book provides valuable information on all of these peoples, including their spiritual needs.
